The Child is the Father of The Man” – What’s It Got to Do with Transactional Analysis?
We can explain this quote through the lens of Transactional Analysis as the ‘parent’ voice inside of us is one that we created early in childhood.
We all experience a parental style ‘Inner-Voice’ that tries to ‘force’ us to believe we ‘should’ or ‘can’t’ do certain things and also to react against these commands.
This inner-voice is not always helpful to us, yes, it can be a powerfully motivating force, but it’s good to notice where these voices originate, and to critically evaluate how realistic are their demands.
As our inner parent voice was created during childhood it’s understandable and highly likely that some of the messages it conveys might be confused, problematic or unhelpful.
